Piraña first welcomed adventurers in 1983 will be partially demolished before the refurbishment can begin. Efteling’s designer Karel Willemen has sculpted new rock work that is more harmonious with the surrounding landscape.

The new rock formations are designed to closely resemble Central American rocks, with intricate detailing and layered features. Scale models based on Willemen’s sketches serve as blueprints to ensure accuracy and attention to detail in the construction process.

A major highlight of the refurbishment is the introduction of new water effects that promise an exhilarating experience for visitors. New water effects will ensure that the water will soon come to the visitors from all sides. These effects include the installation of “water gods” that spew fog and water curtains, ensuring an immersive and unpredictable journey for future adventurers.

Visitors can also look forward to massive water jets that shoot into the air, an aqueduct, and impressive Inca inspired visuals. To enhance the overall experience, Efteling has introduced environmental design, adjusting the water effects to match seasonal conditions. Ensuring  adventurers are not drenched during colder months.

Further maintenance includes concrete repairs on the track, exterior facade painting, and the installation of eight new, energy-efficient pumps. The technical team will also assess the wave machines, chains, and engines, alongside the replacement of control cabinets and associated infrastructure for a seamless operation.

The grand reopening of the Piraña is anticipated to be towards the end of June 2024, with the possibility of completing the project ahead of schedule. Efteling’s investment promises a rejuvenated and thrilling experience for all those who dare to embark on the revamped Piraña adventure.
