Europa-Park has enhanced its popular Voletarium flying theatre attraction by adding an “on-ride teaser” for the theatrical film “Grand Prix of Europe” at the end of the original experience. The trailer promotes the animated motion picture featuring park mascots Ed and Edda, creating a connection between the flying theatre experience and the cinema release.

The fast paced teaser appears at the conclusion to the regular Voletarium ride film. Park goers are immersed in a 45-second race through Paris featuring the motion pictures characters.

Voletarium
Since its opening on June 3, 2017, Voletarium has stood as one of Europa-Park’s most impressive attractions and represented the largest single attraction investment in the park’s history. The name “Voletarium” was revealed at the start of the 2017 season, after the project had been known internally as “Project V” during its development phase.

The attraction is a Brogent Technologies i-Ride Flying Theatre system, with technical design, planning, and installation of AV equipment provided by Austrian company Kraftwerk Living Technologies. The experience consists of two identical flying theatres, each accommodating 70 guests, for a combined hourly capacity of 1,400 visitors.

Each theatre features a massive concave screen measuring 21 meters in diameter with 425 square meters of screen surface. The attraction utilizes multiple 4K projectors to create an immersive flying experience.

The ride takes guests on a four-and-a-half minute aerial journey across 15 landmarks and landscapes from 11 European nations. Riders sit in suspended gondolas that move in sync with the film, simulating the sensation of flight. Special effects including wind, water, and scent enhance the immersive experience.

The attraction’s backstory centers on the fictional Eulenstein brothers, Eckbert and Kaspar, who were members of the Adventure Club of Europe from 1817 to 1825. According to the park’s lore, they successfully flew the first controllable flying object, the “Volatus II,” even before the Wright brothers. The Voletarium itself is presented as the brothers’ secret laboratory, restored and opened to the public.

The Grand Prix of Europe Connection
The addition of the Grand Prix of Europe teaser to Voletarium creates a unique cross-promotional opportunity within Europa-Park. The motion picture, a 90-minute animated feature produced by MACK Magic in collaboration with Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany, was released in cinemas in Germany on July 24, 2025, and in the United Kingdom on August 22, 2025.

The motion picture follows Ed and Edda on a racing adventure across Europe. By incorporating the theatrical trailer into Voletarium, Europa-Park creates a connection between the in-park flying experience over European landmarks and the cinematic racing adventure, demonstrating the park’s evolving approach to multimedia entertainment.
The film’s theatrical release is also connected to Grand Prix EDventure, an interactive 3D dark ride using MACK Rides’ Gameplay Theater platform that opened in 2025 as part of the park’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Subscribe to AirMagique for more news and updates.
