The new lighting concept officially debuted on Friday, September 12, following months of preliminary development work and several weeks of summer programming by Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and Design & Delivery teams.

The extensive renovation project involved replacing more than 640 lighting fixtures and installing over 17 kilometers of new cabling. Technical equipment was modernized throughout the process, and new access points were created to improve future maintenance operations.

The upgraded system features approximately 48,000 individual lighting points, providing expanded creative possibilities for the park’s design team. The lighting display operates in a 16-minute loop cycle, activating each time a train launches in the attraction. Concurrent with the lighting installation, roof repainting work is currently underway and is expected to be completed in the near future.

According to park officials, the enhancement is designed to benefit both riders aboard Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain and visitors throughout Discoveryland, who will be able to observe the external light effects. The project aims to restore the attraction’s exterior to its original condition while introducing new visual effects for the landmark Discoveryland structure.

Numerous fans have shared enthusiastic responses to this upgrade across social media platforms. However, many have also expressed their desire to see the attraction restored to its original concept. The phrase “bring back the moon” has become ubiquitous in the comments on Disneyland Paris’s official social media accounts, referencing the beloved Jules Verne-inspired original attraction that many themed entertainment enthusiasts regard as a masterpiece. Since 2017, the ride has featured the divisive Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay. Subscribe to AirMagique for more news and updates.
