Disneyland Paris has announced significant renovations and new merchandise collections to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its iconic Space Mountain attraction in 2025.

Exterior Lighting System Overhaul
The Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and Design & Delivery teams are implementing a comprehensive lighting upgrade for the Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain exterior. The project, which began approximately two years ago, involves replacing more than 640 light fixtures and installing over 17 kilometers of new cabling.
The renovation also includes modernizing technical equipment, repainting the attraction’s roof, and creating new maintenance access points. According to Disney, the upgrade will enhance the experience for both ride passengers and other Discoveryland visitors, who will witness new light effects each time a vehicle launches.
The project team consulted with the original lighting designer from the attraction’s 1995 debut to ensure continuity with the ride’s original vision while incorporating modern lighting technology.
New Merchandise Line
To mark the milestone anniversary, Disneyland Paris merchandising teams have developed an exclusive collection of themed items inspired by the original Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune attraction.
The collection will feature several key items:
Columbiad Cannon Replica: A detailed miniature version of the cylindrical structure mounted on the attraction’s roof. Product developer Régis Alart, who experienced the original ride in 1995, led the design process to capture the architectural element’s intricate details.
Vehicle Miniatures: Scale replicas of the attraction’s original ride vehicles, designed to evoke nostalgia for the classic experience.
Jumbo Key: An oversized collectible key featuring design elements that reference the attraction, presented in custom packaging created specifically for the anniversary.
Marylène Pourcelot, an illustrator at Disneyland Paris, noted that the key incorporates multiple references to the attraction and comes in specially designed packaging.
Timeline and Availability
The lighting system upgrades are expected to be completed by summer 2025, while the collectible merchandise line is scheduled to arrive in resort shops by the end of 2025. The jumbo key will be available earlier, hitting shelves by the end of summer.
Space Mountain originally opened at Disneyland Paris in 1995 as “Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune” and later became “Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain.” Disneyland Paris has not made any announcements regarding a return to the fan favorite De la Terre à la Lune version of the attraction.
