Disneyland Paris is set to introduce a new water attraction and themed area dedicated to “The Lion King” within the next few years, as confirmed during the D23 Expo in California last night.

The announcement, which follows earlier rumors from last spring, was made by Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D’Amaro, who also revealed an initial design for the attraction. This new E-Ticket ride will be part of Disney Adventure World, the newly renamed Walt Disney Studios Park.

Described as the first-ever immersive themed area with an attraction based on the beloved franchise “The Lion King,” the expansion promises to transport park gores to the heart of the African savannah. Park goers will experience the famous adventures of Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, and other characters from the classic 1994 animated film, despite the concept art’s design’s resemblance to the 2019 live-action remake.

The attraction’s design highlights a water splash surrounding the famous Pride Rock, with various animals depicted in the scene. The layout seen in the concept art is reminiscent of the drop sequence featured on Splash Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

We have yet to receive confirmation whether or not the track layout will be identical. As park goers journey through the ride, they will witness Simba’s transformation from cub to king. The Pride Lands-themed area will feature state-of-the-art animatronics and offer an immersive experience, making park goers feel as though they’ve stepped directly into the movie.

In addition to the water ride, the area will include meet-and-greets, shopping, and dining options, creating a unique experience not found anywhere else in the world. Disneyland Paris Director Natacha Rafalski emphasized the significance of this new area, which is set to plus Disney Adventure World.

Disney has released a new piece of concept art, depicting an overview of what Disney Adventure world will offer in the future. The “Star Wars” themed land has been replaced by the “Lion King” themed area. Notably “Cars: Road Trip” is absent from the concept art. Which has led to speculation that Disney might remove the less than well received attraction in the future.

Construction on the “Lion King” attraction will begin next year under the leadership of Dutch designer Michel den Dulk, who is also overseeing the adjacent “World of Frozen” project. While the exact opening date remains unannounced, the expansion is not expected to be completed before 2028. The “World of Frozen”, however, is scheduled to open in 2026.

During D23, Disney also announced a new lake show for Disney Adventure World as well as a new nighttime spectacular for Disneyland Park in Paris. Subscribe to AirMagique for more updates and news.
