After an extensive maintenance period that began in November 2023, the river rapid type water ride Piraña at Efteling officially reopened on June 29, 2024. Significant updates have been made to enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of the ride.

Park goers can enjoy the new rock formations, carefully designed to blend seamlessly into the Piraña’s theme. Behind the scenes, major upgrades have been implemented. The pumping system, capable of moving 5,000 liters of water per second, has been entirely replaced.
Additionally, control boxes, pipes, cables, and emergency lighting have been updated. The lighting has been switched to energy-efficient LED versions, and new speakers and cameras have been installed around the course. The exterior facade has received a fresh coat of paint, and the surrounding greenery has been revitalized.
Riders can expect an exhilarating experience as they navigate through the enhanced course. Shortly after boarding, they encounter new water gods, with mist from hidden mouths in the tunnel walls and arrows of water that can drench them from both sides. The adventure continues with waves, a water-spouting snake, and a leaking aqueduct that pours water into the boats. Two massive Inca statues create a formidable wall of water in one of the final bends.
The water intensity is seasonally adjusted, ensuring a refreshing soak in the summer and a milder experience in the winter.
New Souvenir Store ‘Cascada’
Visitors to the newly reopened Piraña attraction at Efteling now have an additional treat to look forward to: the brand-new souvenir store, Cascada. This store, which replaces the former photo point, offers a variety of Piraña-themed souvenirs and attraction photos.
Cascada, named after the Spanish word for waterfall, has been designed in the style of the Piraña attraction. The store features colorful decor, with water playing a prominent role. There’s even a real waterfall inside one of the cabinets, and soon, a fountain with a piranha balancing on a water jet will be installed.
Park goers can explore the store both before and after their white-water adventure. The queue includes a walkway that takes visitors through the store, allowing them a sneak peek at the available souvenirs. After the ride, guests exit through Cascada, where they can purchase items such as towels, caps, hats, t-shirts, key chains, magnets, bags, keycords, and figurines featuring the Piraña logo. Additionally, the store offers soft toys, pottery, and bracelets with a South American flair.
In honor of the store’s opening, a unique moving Piraña pin is available for purchase. Furthermore, Piraña now offers animated on-ride photos. This feature, introduced in 2023 at Baron 1898, captures the 600-meter-long river journey in an animated format. Guests can receive this digitally with a valid Digi Photo Pass via the Efteling app.
Cascada not only enhances the Piraña experience with its wide range of themed merchandise but also provides a convenient spot for park goers with facility cards (accessibility) to wait.
