The strike commenced at 9:00 a.m. on May 30 near the Imagination building, which serves as a backstage facility for Cast Members at Disneyland Paris. Within an hour, by 10:00 a.m., the Cast Members had relocated to Central Plaza, positioned in front of Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Castle).
Due to the marches on Main Street, U.S.A., park goers who were redirected through the arcades in order to reach their desired attractions or lands.
Marching through both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, Cast Members made their presence felt, with their route even taking them through Avengers Campus.
Cast members also marched around Lake Disney as well as the shopping, dining and entertainment district Disney Village.
Around 3:00 p.m., Cast Members returned to Central Plaza, enthusiastically chanting “the parade is us” as another performance of “Dream… and Shine Brighter” was canceled. Encouragingly, some park goers showed their support by cheering them on.
For months, Disneyland Paris Cast Members have been striking to bring about improvements in their pay and working conditions. Recently, there was an unexpected cancellation of a performance of Disney Stars on Parade due to another strike by Cast Members.
Last week, the union organized a strike on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland Park. Upon arrival at Disneyland Paris in the morning, park goers were guided to the arcades to reach their intended destinations.
The clear and empty area sparked speculation among some visitors that a show was about to commence. As the demonstration persisted, park goers had the opportunity to witness Cast Members passionately chanting for change. As a result of the Cast Members’ demonstration in that area, one performance of the “Dream… Shine Brighter” Parade had to be canceled.
In February, a comparable occurrence took place at Disneyland Paris, where protests advocating for equal pay resulted in a performance of “Dream… and Shine Brighter” without any characters, while another performance had to be completely canceled.
