This weekend, Disneyland Paris launched Disney Tales of Magic, a new nighttime spectacular that brings Disney and Pixar stories to life with cutting-edge technology and storytelling.
https://anchor.fm/s/7618f58/podcast/rssFollowing in the footsteps of Disney Dreams! (2012) and Disney Illuminations (2017), the new show introduces immersive experiences on a large scale, incorporating Main Street, U.S.A. via projection mapping for the first time alongside the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Blending projections, pyrotechnics, lasers, drones, and an original score, Disney Tales of Magic celebrates the essence of Disney magic—encouraging dreams, cherishing memories, and fostering connections. The production draws inspiration from Disney and Pixar classics such as Cinderella, The Lion King, Encanto, and Inside Out. Each story is brought to life with visual effects and a symphonic soundtrack that includes over 20 tracks, interwoven with the original song “Live in Magic,” performed by Noémie Legrand.

With over 17,500 hours of programming and advanced 3D techniques, the production team has created a visually stunning experience. The show integrates 60 powerful lighting fixtures (skylights), over 200 architectural LED lights, and a new audio system. The inclusion of drones, in collaboration with technology partner Dronisos, enables 3D formations in the night sky.

Projections extend beyond the castle to transform Main Street, U.S.A. The tech teams have doubled the frame rate, moving from 25 to 50 frames per second. Resulting in smoother motion and crisper images. From Cinderella’s ballroom to Riley’s colorful memory spheres from Inside Out, the scenes shift seamlessly, creating a dynamic environment. Key moments, such as Simba’s encounter with Mufasa in The Lion King, use drones and 3D visuals to evoke emotional resonance.

A Journey Through Disney Magic
The show is divided into distinct sections, each exploring different facets of Disney magic:
- The prologue honors classic animation, featuring scenes from Pinocchio, Cinderella, and Mary Poppins. Main Street, U.S.A. transforms into a glittering ballroom, setting the stage for Cinderella’s iconic transformation.
- Stories like Inside Out highlight emotions and memories, while Lilo & Stitch and Toy Story celebrate friendship and adventure. In a humorous and action-packed sequence, lasers create a battle between Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zurg.
- Snowfall and serene lighting create a romantic ambiance for Beauty and the Beast, while Coco and The Lion King delve into themes of family and remembrance, culminating in a visually complex tribute to Simba’s journey of self-discovery.
- A vibrant finale inspired by Encanto emphasizes the importance of community and family. The Madrigal family gathers on the castle, accompanied by South American rhythms and a display of fireworks.

Storytelling with Music and Sound
The original score of Disney Tales of Magic plays a pivotal role in shaping the audience’s experience. The soundtrack transitions seamlessly between iconic Disney songs, supported by cinematic visuals and immersive soundscapes. Advanced speaker placement and sound effects create a 360-degree auditory experience, making the audience feel like participants rather than spectators.

The Grand Finale
The show concludes with a large pyrotechnic display, a tradition of Disney castle park shows. Each element—light, sound, and story—culminates in the big finale.

Disney Tales of Magic
