A new fairy tale experience has been unveiled at the Fairytale Forest, marking the attraction’s 31st storybook installation. “The Princess and the Pea,” based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, opened to visitors today.

The new exhibit is located between the “Woman Hollow” and “Troll King” displays, featuring an elaborate royal gazebo scene. Visitors can observe Princess Adinda atop a towering stack of mattresses, appearing visibly unrested after her night’s sleep – the key plot point that proves her royal lineage in the original story.

According to the tale, only a true princess would be sensitive enough to feel a pea placed beneath numerous mattresses. The installation captures the moment when attendants reveal that Adinda’s discomfort confirms her royal identity, despite her initially bedraggled appearance upon arrival at the palace.

Belgian singer Geike Arnaert performs the narration set to music composed by René Merkelbach. The soundtrack emphasizes the fairy tale’s moral about inner beauty and sensitivity. Starting May 16, park goers can hear this musical accompaniment not only at the attraction but also on various streaming platforms including Spotify. The release includes the sung narration “The Princess on the Pea,” an instrumental version titled “As You Are,” and background music called “Beauty in the Dusk.”

The exhibit faithfully portrays Andersen’s story of a rain-soaked girl claiming royal heritage who proves her status through her sensitivity to a hidden pea beneath multiple mattresses – demonstrating that appearances can be deceiving and true nobility comes from within.
