Brühl, Germany – Phantasialand theme park has opened a new 4D cinema attraction featuring several world-first technologies, including a sound-transparent 3D LED screen and panoramic-view 3D glasses.
The attraction, titled “Die 3 Mausketiere” (The 3 Musketeers), is located in the park’s Berlin-themed area and tells the story of three mouse heroes attempting to save their underground world of Mausville from a villainous rat boss.
The venue, formerly called the Schauspielhaus (German for “theater”), had screened the 70mm 3D short film Pirates 4-D for 26 years before closing.

Groundbreaking Display Technology
The centerpiece of the attraction is what Phantasialand claims is the world’s first sound-transparent 3D passive LED screen. Unlike traditional projection systems, the LED display serves as its own light source, delivering images at resolutions of 3328 x 1536 pixels per eye. The screen is reportedly up to 50 times brighter than conventional projectors, reaching 320 cd/m².
The display incorporates perforations that allow sound to pass directly through the screen, enabling speakers to be positioned behind the display. This configuration allows audio to emanate from the visual action on screen, supported by a 360-degree surround sound system throughout the theater.
Specialized Viewing Equipment
Guests wear newly developed 3D Panoview glasses, which Phantasialand describes as the world’s first with extreme wide-angle lenses. The curved lenses are designed to provide an expanded field of view while minimizing frame interference and reducing ghosting effects.
Motion Seating System
The attraction marks the European debut of premium motion seats from Kraftwerk Living Technologies. Unlike pneumatic systems, these electrically powered seats operate more quietly while delivering synchronized effects including movement, air jets, and scents timed to the on-screen action.
Theatrical Design
The venue, now called the Residenz Theater, has been redesigned to complement the attraction’s Berlin theme and the animated characters’ world. The elimination of traditional projection equipment has allowed for optimized seating arrangements, enabling clear sightlines from all positions according to the park.
The film and original musical score were created specifically for Phantasialand, with music recorded by the Filmorchester Babelsberg.
