Efteling has been tirelessly working for two years on its latest attraction, “Danse Macabre,” slated to open on 31 October.

This new addition stands on the site of the former Spookslot Haunted House, now transformed into a mysterious abbey with a chilling history. The construction, which can now be seen in its entirety, promises a thrilling experience.
https://anchor.fm/s/7618f58/podcast/rssEfteling has released the first images of the abbey’s interior, showcasing recently installed choir seats, repurposed elements from Spookslot, and an immense organ. Visitors will soon be able to immerse themselves in this eerie environment.

“Danse Macabre” offers a haunted spectacle where 108 souls will “dance” to Camille Saint-Saëns’ famous composition. The design team, inspired by visits to several Belgian abbeys, has created an attraction that promises to be mesmerizing.

Designer Jeroen Verheij expressed his excitement: “The bizarre thing -and at the same time the beautiful thing- is that, as a designer, you are at the very beginning of inventing and sketching what we are showing here now. That means that I am actually in my own drawing now.”

Efteling has invested approximately EUR 35 million in “Danse Macabre” and the new Huyverwoud themed area. The 18-metre diameter turntable, featuring six smaller turntables, will accommodate 108 visitors. This unique ride system, making its debut at Efteling, will spin, rise, tilt, and fall, creating a thrilling experience.

The 20-metre-high attraction is part of the 17,000m² Huyverwoud themed area, which includes dining, retail, and entertainment options.
Visitors will enter through an ominous abbey square and find dark-themed dining locations, such as In den Swarte Kat and ‘t Koetshuys, and the toilet facility De Laetste Hoop. The Charlatan family, with their special barrel organ Esmeralda, will add to the creepy atmosphere.

The queue for “Danse Macabre” starts at eight years old and leads visitors through a cloister, herb garden, cemetery, and creepy forest, culminating in the eerie abbey. With its dark twists and turns, this attraction is set to be a spooky highlight for Efteling visitors. Subscribe to AirMagique for more updates and news.
