Europa-Park, 19 June, 2023 a fire broke out in the technical room of the walkthrough attraction/dark ride scene “Yomis-Zauberwelt der Diamanten”, resulting in the destruction of the latter and affecting several nearby attractions and offerings.

According to initial findings, it’s likely that the fire occurred due to a technical defect. Emergency responders were made aware of the situation by fire alarms inside the attraction. During the firefighting efforts, two firefighters sustained minor injuries due to the smoke. In addition, two visitors had to be treated by ambulance staff.

Despite gaining control over the fire within hours, the extinguishing efforts persisted throughout the evening. Images captured by a local fire brigade provide a glimpse into the extent of the damage.

“Yomis-Zauberwelt der Diamanten” will need to be completely demolished. The roof, partially collapsed, appears charred. Adjacent to it, the roof of the Bazar Español souvenir shop has also caved in. Inside the hall, the majority of decor has suffered irreparable damage, although some pillars remain standing.

Two attractions that traverse the diamond cave, namely the family style powered coaster “Alpenexpress” and the log flume “Tiroler Wildwasserbahn” will be unable to operate until further notice. Europa-Park hopes to get both attractions running again within a year. Additionally, the Panoramabahn train ride is temporarily out of service. Furthermore, an adjacent ATM has become unusable. According to Europa-Park employees the “Panoramabahn” could re-open as soon as this weekend.

When the fire erupted, approximately 25,000 individuals were in the theme park. Visitors were instructed to evacuate the park at approximately 5:30 p.m., an hour before official closure. Adjacent hotels were also evacuated as a precautionary measure, with guests given the green light to return to their room at approximately 9:20 p.m.. Thick smoke clouds lingered over Europa-Park until sunset.

According to Europa-Park the following attractions will remain closed until further notice: “Panoramabahn”, “Alpenexpress Enzian”, “Alpenexpress Coastiality”, “Tiroler Wildwasserbahn”, “Yomis-Zauberwelt der Diamanten”, along with the shops “Bazar Español” and “Edelsteingrotte”.

This is not the first time an attraction has burned down in Europa-Park. The now re-built “Piraten in Batavia” was destroyed by a fire in 2018. Europa-Park completely re-designed the attraction and it re-opened to the park goers on July 28, 2020.
