Efteling has announced that it’s water coaster / dark ride hybrid “De Vliegende Hollander” has received a new show scene.

During it’s annual maintenance downtime, the creative team implemented a brand new show scene.

Adventurous park goers can now look forward to sailing through a stormy shipwreck graveyard.

In order to plus “De Vliegende Hollander” Efteling teams worked with the original attractions manufacturer BOM Engineering. Efteling and BOM Engineering have also entered into a five year maintenance contract. Ensuring that “De Vliegende Hollander” will continue to operate smoothly in the future.

All of the water had to be pumped out of the attraction so that the scaffolding could be safely built. After which the teams began to strip all unnecessary parts of the old scene which took about two weeks.

New shipwreck frames were then installed, followed by further decor including the sails, lamps and speakers.

Finally the water was pumped back into the attraction and show programming could commence. Efteling designer Karel Willemen was closely involved in this process.

Besides the new show scene the maintenance teams also worked on the attractions facade, lighting, underwater machinery and boats.

“De Vliegende Hollander” was also inspected by the independent TÜV Nederland, which issued the required safety certificate.

In honor of the reopening “De Vliegende Hollander”, Efteling has released the entire attraction soundtrack on Spotify and other streaming services starting today.
