Beginning January 6, 2025, the flagship Big Thunder Mountain attraction at Disneyland Paris will temporarily close for a comprehensive renovation, set to last until early summer 2025.
https://anchor.fm/s/7618f58/podcast/rssThe closure marks a significant effort to preserve the ride’s iconic status while ensuring show quality for future visitors.

For over a year, teams from Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and Design & Delivery have been planning this refurbishment in collaboration with the Maintenance and Central Workshop teams. The updates aim to maintain the ride’s year-round operational quality, uphold its original creative vision, and honor its historical ties to Frontierland.

A key aspect of the renovation is the refurbishment of the wood elements that define the attraction’s Wild West atmosphere. Following an in-depth study, certain wooden structures will be replaced with durable, custom-made elements. These updates, handled by the Design & Delivery and Central Workshop teams, will retain the authentic, weathered appearance of a gold-rush mining operation. Additionally, other notable features, such as the Mill Camp tower and parts of the queue area, will undergo restorations.

The ride’s animal figures, including Billy the goat and the mules, will be refreshed by the Central Workshop team. Enhancements to the attraction’s landscaping will include the re-planting of cacti, reinforcing its North American desert setting. Drawing from archival materials dating back to the ride’s 1992 debut, the team is committed to preserving the authenticity and historical significance of these features.

Park goers can look forward to experiencing “The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” again as part of the summer 2025 season. Subscribe to AirMagique for more updates and news.
