Disneyland Paris has reopened its Aladdin themed aerial carousel, Les Tapis Volants – Flying Carpets over Agrabah, on November 9, 2024, following a 10-month refurbishment.
https://anchor.fm/s/7618f58/podcast/rssThe updates were undertaken by Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and the Design & Delivery team, in collaboration with the park’s maintenance and central workshops, with a focus on improving comfort, safety, and visual appeal.

The refurbishment included extensive repainting of the attraction’s carpets, structure, and decorative elements, as well as upgrades to the lighting and audio systems. New props referencing the 1992 Disney animated film Aladdin have also been added to the queue area, creating subtle nods to the film’s iconic scenes and characters. Notably, the once-prominent Genie figure with his megaphone has not returned.

Design changes have also been integrated into the surrounding area, where park goers can observe a pavement designed to resemble the sandy desert landscapes near the fictional city of Agrabah. The queue area has been further enriched with details inspired by settings from Aladdin: on one side, ornate columns and lotus flowers evoke the Sultan’s palace, while on the other, wooden pillars, fruit baskets, and decorative carpets evoke the bustling marketplace where Aladdin first encounters Princess Jasmine. A hidden golden scarab beetle, a reference to the magical artifact from the film, can also be spotted by observant guests.

This refurbishment aims to increase Walt Disney Studio Parks low attraction capacity. Originally opened on March 16, 2002, the attraction features a large “movie set” backdrop of Agrabah and was manufactured by Zamperla. It remains the only ride from the park’s opening day that is still in operation. Subscribe to AirMagique for more updates and news.
