112. Movie Park Germany Trip Report

Hello everyone, on this European Theme Park Spotlight episode Eric and Niels are chatting about Movie Park Germany. The theme park, formerly known as Warner Bros. Movie World, has evolved…

Europa-Park reopened the reconstructed Austrian-themed area “Zauberschlucht der Diamanten” (Magic Canyon of Diamonds) earlier than expected.

In June 2023, the “Zauberschlucht der Diamanten” was destroyed by fire, including the indoor section where the water ride “Tiroler Wildwasserbahn” (Tyrolean Log Flume Ride) and the powered coaster “Alpenexpress Enzian” were located. Since then, these attractions had been closed.

The German amusement park successfully rebuilt this section within ten months but with significant changes. Instead of a cave, visitors now experience a gorge with rock formations and open-air waterfalls. The previously featured Norse trolls have been replaced by cheerful and colorful characters called “the Yomis.” Additionally, a large dragon now resides in the area.

In honor of the old “Zauberwelt,” a pedestal featuring a troll statue and the inscription “1984-2023” now stands at the entrance. A completely new addition is the “Yomi Adventure Trail,” featuring suspended bridges, climbing nets, towers, and slides. Although the entire route is still under construction, work is ongoing at several locations.

New Roller Coaster
Regarding the roller coaster, the track of the “Alpenexpress” had to be completely replaced after the fire, along with the introduction of a new train. According to various sources, this essentially qualifies as a new roller coaster due to these significant changes. The original “Alpenexpress train” was repurposed as a set piece within the area.

The front of the new locomotive displays the inscription “GRTNBLTZ.” The roller coaster model, named “Cave Blitz,” was constructed by the in-house supplier Mack Rides. A significant portion of the channel for the “Tiroler Wildwasserbahn” has also been renewed.

“Edelstein-Grotte” Now Open
Moreover, the “Edelstein-Grotte” (Gemstone grotto) souvenir store has reopened. The official unveiling of the “Zauberschlucht der Diamanten”  is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, in two and a half weeks. Until then, park goers should anticipate occasional closures and delays.

Voltron Nevera
It’s likely that Europa-Park initiated the soft opening of the Austrian-themed area due to the opening of the highly anticipated Voltron Nevera roller coaster. Situated in the newly built Croatia-themed area, Voltron Nevera has seen wait times hover around the 120 minute mark. Reopening the Austrian-themed area could combat the high wait times of Voltron Nevera somewhat. As park goers and fans of Europa-Park are drawn to two separate areas.
