Disneyland Park park goers can once again venture into the dark depths beneath Sleeping Beauty Castle and encounter the enigmatic dragon residing within. La Tanière du Dragon, which had been closed for a substantial renovation over the past several months, has now reopened with a few enhancements. The refurbishment included the installation of black light projectors, the use of specially reactive transparent paint, thematic lighting upgrades, and improvements in show control mechanisms, all carried out by the figure finishing team.

One of the significant technical updates took place last July, involving the replacement of all spotlights and show control systems. This technical overhaul was aimed at not only enhancing the overall ambiance but also providing park goers with a more immersive experience. New lighting fixtures were introduced to better highlight the intricate details within the cavern, from its numerous crevices to the iridescent effects on the rock formations and the hanging roots from the ceiling.

Additionally, during the October closure period, the focus shifted towards revamping the dragon itself. The dragon’s appearance was transformed with the use of new black light projectors and the application of a unique type of paint that responds to this specific lighting. By utilising invisible black light paint, which remains imperceptible to the naked eye until the black light is activated, Imagineers managed to incorporate a surprise for park goers.

The completion of this refurbishment project was made possible through collaborative efforts with the Figure Finishing workshop at Disneyland Paris. Their involvement was instrumental, encompassing various aspects of the project, from its initial design and methodology to fine-tuning lighting adjustments and the programming of immersive effects.
